DERRICK SOUZA JOINS MYERS BIGEL

Myers Bigel is pleased to announce Derrick Souza has joined the firm’s award-winning legal team.

Derrick Souza received his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Clemson University. He earned his J.D. from the University of New Hampshire Franklin Pierce School of Law, where he also obtained a certificate in Intellectual Property Law. As an undergraduate, he served as a guest lecturer for Clemson’s calculus exam prep program, Calculus Fight Club. While attending law school, Derrick worked as a legal intern at BAE Systems, Inc., where he reviewed and drafted a variety of patent prosecution documents and applications. He went on to complete two legal residencies: one at the University of New Hampshire’s tech transfer office and the other at an intellectual property law firm. Throughout these residencies, Derrick gained valuable experience conducting prior art searches in technologies such as signal processing, cryptography, and other electrical engineering disciplines, as well as performing trademark searches, conducting market analyses, and assisting clients with their intellectual property needs. Derrick’s practice focuses on the preparation and prosecution of patent applications in electrical engineering.

Derrick joins a team of attorneys and patent agents emphasizing patent procurement in practice areas including electronics/computer, mechanical, trademark, chemical and biotechnology. The firm’s experience with domestic and international patents is vast, having successfully filed in practically every country in the world, drafting quality patents that cover the full scope of an invention and stand up to courtroom challenges.
