IP Stars Recognizing Myers Bigel as Top Tier Law Firm

Randy Ayers was recognized for his work in patent prosecution in various electrical engineering technologies, along with patent licensing and patent opinion work. With particular expertise in the communications and semiconductor fields, Ayers also has extensive experience in all aspects of patent litigation, including Markman hearings, trial and appeal, and significant first chair litigation experience. In addition to IP Stars he was the 2018 Litigation Intellectual Property Law “Lawyer of the Year” in Raleigh. Ayers has also been included in The Best Lawyers in America® (2012-2021) and Business North Carolina’s Legal Elite (2006-2009).
IP STARS noted David Beatty’s expertise in computer technology and services, ICT and software, technology hardware and telecommunication. In 2014, Beatty was ranked as the #1 business lawyer in North Carolina by Business North Carolina magazine, based on a poll of North Carolina lawyers, and has been inducted into the magazine’s Legal Elite Hall of Fame. This is the third straight year Jim Cannon was recognized by IP STARS. Earlier this year he was included in the Chambers USA 2020 Guide, a listing of firms and attorneys considered leaders in their field based on surveys of clients and lawyers across the United States. He is experienced in patent prosecution in mechanical engineering, chemistry and biotechnology areas. Cannon has particular expertise in paper making machines and component technology; manufacturing technology; motion furniture; materials handling; battery construction and manufacturing and plastic part manufacturing; cellular communications and power connector cable, tower, and accessory technology; and household appliance technology. Cannon was named The Best Lawyers® 2018 Patent Law “Lawyer of the Year” in Raleigh; has been included in The Best Lawyers in America® (2008-2021), Super Lawyers (2006-2007); and was included in Business North Carolina’s Legal Elite (2004-2013).
Scott Moore was recognized for his work in electrical, mechanical, pharmaceutical and telecommunication fields. His technology background includes a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering, with high honors, and a Master of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering. He has been practicing patent law since 1997; prior to his legal career, Moore worked at AT&T Bell Laboratories/Lucent Technologies for ten years where he developed software for telecommunication systems. He focuses his practice on the preparation and prosecution of patent applications in the areas of electronics, communications, software, and electrical engineering.
Like Jim Cannon, this is the third straight year Julie Richardson has been named an IP STAR. With expertise in patent licensing, patent opinion work and trademarks, she focuses her practice on patent prosecution in the electromechanical arts with an emphasis on biomedical devices. She has prepared and prosecuted hundreds of patents directed to various technologies including MRI-based inventions. In addition to being included in The Best Lawyers in America® (2013-2021), Super Lawyers (2006) and Business North Carolina’s Legal Elite (2004, 2006-2011, 2014-2019), Richardson was named winner, Intellectual Property Law, Business North Carolina’s Legal Elite (2019) as well as a winner of the Triangle Business Journal Women in Business Award in 2015 and is one of the co-creators of “PROJECT TOGETHER,” a pro bono program providing representation to indigent clients in domestic violence court proceedings. She received the 2008 Pro Bono Impact Award for her work on this program.
