Myers Bigel Continues to Support Legal Community by Hosting USPTO Examiners, AIPLA Networking Event

Myers Bigel is continuing its active involvement in the legal community by supporting two events in May and June.

Myers Bigel hosted the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA) Women in IP Networking event on May 21st, and is hosting examiners from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) on June 11.

“Regardless of the specific focus, patent law continually changes, and it’s essential that our legal team keep up to date with developments in the courts as well as within the legal community,” Managing Partner David Purks said, adding, “The educational and professional development opportunities they undertake ensure that our clients receive the best possible service.”

The firm is hosting eleven USPTO examiners from the Technology Center 1600 which examines biotechnology and organic chemistry.  Their visit is part of a USPTO Site Educational Experience trip in which examiners visit organizations to learn the latest technologies and innovations in order to improve the quality of patent examination.  

On May 21, the firm took part in the 2015 AIPLA Women in IP Global Networking Event which was held for the eighth year. It is designed as a meeting of women located around the globe who practice IP law and/or regularly face IP issues in the ordinary course of business.  

Myers Bigel hosted the event at its offices with an hour of networking followed by a panel discussion between five distinguished women in IP from the Research Triangle Park area sharing stories of success and motivation in addition to examining the challenges facing women in IP in industry, academia and the legal field. This is the second year the firm has hosted the event.

The USPTO visit and AIPLA event were the latest in a continuing outreach effort by Myers Bigel to share its knowledgebase and best practices in patent law while providing professional development and educational opportunities for members of its talented legal team. In April, the firm participated in the AgBiotech Professional Forum held at the NC Biotech Center; Campbell Law School’s Patent Law Symposium; World IP Day at the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics; and the 2015 Intellectual Property Institute for Paralegals.
